Question 1

What is Sapiens?

Accepted Answer

A Mac app that turns your household's documents, email and calendar into one private memory. You ask questions, and every answer names the notes it came from.

Question 2

Where is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

In a folder on your Mac, as plain Markdown notes. Sapiens keeps a search index beside it, and the index can be rebuilt from your notes at any time.

Question 3

Does Sapiens read my email and files without asking?

Accepted Answer

No. Nothing is read until you choose a source and confirm its scope. Sources are connected read-only, so Sapiens never writes back to them.

Question 4

Can Sapiens change things or act for me?

Accepted Answer

It proposes changes to your vault and waits for your approval. It never makes a purchase, a booking or a payment on its own.

Question 5

Do my notes leave my Mac?

Accepted Answer

When you ask a question, the notes needed to answer it are sent through Sapiens Cloud to a hosted model, which writes the answer. Sapiens Cloud does not store them.

Question 6

What if it doesn't know the answer?

Accepted Answer

It says so instead of guessing, and it may ask you for the missing fact so it can answer next time.

Question 7

Can I use it by voice?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Press ⇧⌘Space to talk to Sapiens. You can also dictate in the chat.

Question 8

What do I need to run it?

Accepted Answer

A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 14 or later.

Question 9

How do I remove my data?

Accepted Answer

Your vault is a folder: delete it to remove your notes from this Mac. To delete your Sapiens account, see the data deletion page.

A personal agentic operating system for your household or business.
